DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Intense rainfall has swept across Dubai and the wider United Arab Emirates, causing widespread flooding and disruptions.

According to a DXB airport official, 13 inbound flights were forced to be rerouted to nearby airports on Saturday morning due to the severe weather conditions. Heavy rainfall has inundated streets, trapping cars and blocking traffic in certain areas of the city.

"We've had some extremely heavy rainfall in some areas of Dubai," said a representative from Sky News World News. "Flooding and blocked streets have been reported, with some roads becoming impassable due to the standing water."

Due to the extreme weather conditions, authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and stay indoors if possible. The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued a warning for more rainfall and thunderstorms in the coming days, with the potential for flash flooding in low-lying areas.

"The roads of Dubai are currently waterlogged and flooded," said an NCM spokesperson. "Residents should be aware of the potential for hazards and exercise caution."
