Dubai Floods: Record Rainfall Inundates City
Torrential rains batter Middle East, causing widespread flooding
Heavy rains have lashed Dubai and other parts of the Middle East, causing widespread flooding and disrupting daily life.
The rains, which began on Tuesday, have been associated with a larger storm system that is traversing the Arabian Peninsula. The United Arab Emirates has been particularly hard hit, with Dubai experiencing some of the worst flooding in its history.
In Dubai, over a half foot of rain fell in just 24 hours, according to records. The flooding has inundated major highways, flooded homes and businesses, and stranded motorists.
The rains have also caused widespread damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and power lines. Schools and businesses have been closed, and flights have been canceled.
The flooding has also led to at least one death in Dubai, and there are fears that the death toll could rise as the rains continue.
The storm is expected to continue for several more days, and heavy rains are still forecast for Dubai and other parts of the Middle East.
